There’s Work to Do: An infographic from BC Hydro on the aging British Columbia power grid.

Did you know that some of British Columbia’s most important dams are aging? In fact, dams such as the GM Shrum, Mica Dam, John Hart and Ruskin Dam, which are some of B.C.’s most vital dams, were built 40 to 85 years ago, between 1930 and the mid-1970s. As you can imagine, in order to keep these important pieces of the province’s grid functioning, as well as keep up with British Columbia’s ever growing population and energy needs, there’s some work to be done.

Read the below infographic from BC Hydro to learn more about these aging dams, why they are so integral to the current B.C. power grid, the upgrades that BC Hydro is making to them, new projects that will help support the grid and more.

The infographic also briefly touches on BC Hydro’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), a 20-year plan that proposes how to most effectively meet the growing demand for electricity throughout the province, including clean energy generation. To learn more about BC Hydro’s IRP, visit About the Integrated Resource Plan.
