Discover why CCS is a viable and important solution for the prevention of increased global warming.

Have you ever wondered what one metric tonne of carbon dioxide would look like if you were standing next to it? Or how the amount of coal, oil and gas would stack up if measured within the scope of our everyday lives? What would our fossil fuel consumption look like if compared to a city, for example? The below animated video from Green.TV provides answers to these questions and more, resulting in realizations of our present reality that may shock you.

The video goes on to state that, although the use of renewables is increasing, fossil fuels continue to be on the rise as well. With this in mind, the world needs a solution that will assist in humanity’s attempt to keep the rise of global temperature below 2 degrees Celsius; a goal that is meant to help mitigate the effects of climate change. Green.TV presents carbon capture and storage as the solution to this goal.

What is carbon capture and storage?

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a method of capturing up to 90% of carbon dioxide that is emitted from fuel combustion or industrial processes, transporting it to depleted oil and gas fields, and storing it underground, thereby preventing it from entering Earth’s atmosphere.

Although CCS is capable of capturing up to 90% of CO2, a minimum of 10% of carbon dioxide will still be emitted from buildings that employ CCS technologies.
