An incredible and noteworthy accomplishment by the students of Munroe Academy in Cape Breton!

trophy-27825_640Congratulations to Munroe Academy, a small rural school located in Balls Creek, Nova Scotia, for their recent win at the Zayed Future Energy Contest.

Using recycled materials, such as old pop cans, students of a seventh grade math class at Munroe Academy created a solar air heater, which won the school a $70,000 award at the aforementioned international contest in the United Arab Emirates. The majority of the prize money will fund solar panels for the school in its effort to one day use 100% renewable energy.

It is very inspiring to see a group of young Canadians create innovative solutions in support of our environment, in addition to taking such an interest in the well-being of our planet. Congratulations again to the students of Munroe Academy on this incredible accomplishment!
