The Energy Gang asks: is the market ready for distributed batteries?
With the big reveal from Tesla this month of their latest product, the Powerwall home battery packs (10-kilowatt-hour energy storage pack that includes batteries, thermal management, and software), everyone in the industry seems to be talking about distributed batteries.
In the recent press conference for this tech reveal, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, said, “Our goal here is to fundamentally change the way the world uses energy at the extreme scale…The goal is the complete transformation of the entire energy infrastructure of the world to completely sustainable zero carbon.” He also talked of grid independence and suggested that 2 billion Powerwall packs could be enough to transition the world completely to sustainable energy.
Of course, it’s not as simple as that, however, it is a notable goal and one that Tesla is taking tangible steps toward. With this announcement and the increasing talk of distributed batteries, The Energy Gang over at Green Tech Media ask: is the market ready for distributed batteries like Tesla’s Powerwall?
Take a listen to this podcast to hear the Energy Gang chat with Sky Stanfield, an attorney representing the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, about proactive approaches to storage integration and the potential for distributed batteries.
