NASA video showcases Earth’s long-term warming trend from 1880 to 2015.
Analyses and data have been released independently by NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the UK Met Office showcasing that 2015 was the hottest year on record since modern record keeping began in the late 1800s. In fact, since 2001, 15 of the 16 warmest years on record have occurred, which serves to demonstrate the dramatic warming trend that has been occurring, especially since the beginning of this century.
Although El Niño contributed to warmer temperatures last year, all three organizations have suggested that human influence is what has ultimately contributed to 2015 being Earth’s hottest year on modern record. According to NASA, Earth’s average surface temperature has climbed 1 degree Celsius since the end of the 1800s, which can mainly be attributed to the man-made greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide.
