Donald Sadoway talks to TED about the missing link to renewable energy…
This may have been recorded a few years ago, however, it is still full of relevant information. We talk often about the need for renewable energy and how we should all be more focused on pouring our efforts into developing and constantly improving our technologies; the technologies that would enable us to consume energy that is renewable and clean.
What happens after we’ve developed the tech that can carry us to sustainable energy? Donald Sadoway, the inventor of the liquid metal battery, share’s his insight on what he believes is the missing link to renewable energy. We’ve already got incredible technologies available to us, but what of energy storage? The most ideal energy situation would be to have a bank of renewable energy available to us, a battery of energy for when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing.
As Sadoway says, “We need to think about the problem differently. We need to think big. We need to think cheap.”
