Canada Post Receives Recognition for Energy Conservation After Installing Electrical Harmonizer-AVR

Toronto, Ontario Ontario’s Chief Energy Conservation Officer today recognizes Canada Post as a champion in energy conservation for its voltage optimization initiatives at postal facilities in Greater Toronto. Voltage optimization reduces energy consumption by up to 10 per cent and cuts electricity bills by up to 12 per cent while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Certificate of Recognition for Energy Conservation recognizes companies, organizations and individuals that are taking action to demonstrate long-term commitment to energy conservation in Ontario.

Legend Power Systems Inc.’s (TSX-V: LPS) (“Legend Power”) patented Electrical Harmonizer-AVR facilitates voltage optimization when it is installed at buildings and facilities that consume large amounts of electricity. The Electrical Harmonizer-AVR has been installed, tested and verified at Canada Post’s processing plants at 1860 Midland Avenue and 280 Progress Avenue in Toronto. Based on the results, these installations are expected to produce an 8.16 per cent reduction in energy consumption, save 282,289 kWhrs and reduce 282 tons of greenhouse gas emission per year between the two facilities. As a result, Canada Post also benefits from an expected annual cost savings of $28,230.

“Conserving energy is one of the most important actions any person or organization can take,” said Peter Love, Ontario’s Chief Energy Conservation Officer.  “By installing this equipment, Canada Post is taking the steps necessary to use less energy, save money and help protect the environment.”

“Canada Post is committed to reducing its electrical consumption in our buildings. Over the past two years, in the GTA alone, Canada Post has reduced its energy consumption by over four per cent and five per cent respectively,” says Fred Pollard, Director, Mail Operations Support – Greater Toronto Area for Canada Post.

The Electrical Harmonizer-AVR has been installed at a third Canada Post plant at 969 Eastern Avenue in Toronto. The results of this installation will be verified in a few weeks.

“We are very excited about our relationship with Canada Post. The results of their initiative serve as a shining example of energy conservation through voltage optimization for other corporations in Ontario,” says Gerry Gill, Chairman and CEO of Legend Power.

Canada Post is the first corporation in Ontario to receive incentive funding for energy conservation through voltage optimization from the Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Toronto’s Conservation and Demand Management program. The project was proposed and delivered by Brookfield LePage Johnson Controls, Facilities Management Contractor for Canada Post in Ontario.

Voltage optimization is an innovative solution that offers superior energy and cost savings, which can also lead to long-term savings in repair and maintenance costs.

About Legend Power Systems Inc.
Legend Power Systems Inc. (TSX.V: LPS) is a leading electrical energy conservation company that manufactures and markets a patented device to help commercial and industrial customers achieve significant energy savings through voltage optimization. Legend Power’s Electrical Harmonizer-Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) eliminates inefficiencies by delivering the optimal level of voltage a user needs.  Most customers receive higher voltage levels than required at certain points of the grid from electrical utilities delivering higher levels to compensate for line loss across the feeder length.  Higher than nominal voltage can affect the lifespan of electrical equipment and result in high monthly utility bills.  By delivering the optimal voltage to the user, Legend Power’s Electrical Harmonizer-AVR helps companies reduce their electricity bills, maintenance costs and greenhouse gas emissions while increasing the lifetime of machinery, equipment and lighting.  The technology also decreases capital and operating costs for electrical utilities.
