Discover the source of the power that operates our every day lives, how it gets to us, and innovative ideas that are on the horizon for the grid itself.

With the majority of North Americans relying on some form of power to go about their every day lives, it’s no surprise that many of us take electricity and the energy sources that power that electricity for granted. We rarely question the source, the route, or even the method of the power that we so heavily rely on.

As it turns out, it’s not all that complicated. Referred to as “the grid,” the system that relays electricity from power plants, solar panels, wind turbines, or what have you, to our office buildings and homes, can be easily broken down and explained in stages of the electricity’s “life cycle.” In the below infographic, Understanding the Grid, discover the path that electricity takes from its generation, to transmission, to distribution, to end use. The bottom of the infographic even provides several grid innovations that may change the way we create and consume energy in the future, as well as careers that are affiliated with the power grid.
