Legend Power Systems Inc (Legend) announced today, with official representation from Canada Post, the installation of three Electrical Harmonizers™ (Harmonizers) at the Canada Post mail sorting facilities in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Following the completion of a major electrical retrofit of the 1 million plus square foot Vancouver Canada Post facility, the decision was then made to install two 1500 Amp Harmonizers to create significant additional electrical energy savings for both the A and B supply transformer loads. Independent measurement and verification of this installation of Harmonizers proved annual energy conservation averaging 877,000 kilowatt hours, and negating the equivalent of 877 tonnes of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions per year.
Other benefits to this installation included:
- 10.25% reduction in kilowatt hour (kWh) consumption
- 18.85% reduction in reactive power (KVARs)
- 8.00% reduction in reactive power (KVARs)
- 17.29% reduction in total harmonic distortion (THD)
- 7.79% reduction in kilowatt hour (kWh) consumption
- 22.5% reduction in reactive power (KVARs)
- 12.83% reduction in total harmonic distortion (THD)
Mr. Gerry Gill, Legend’s Chair and CEO said, “We congratulate Canada Post for being an early adopter of this energy saving technology. We wish to thank both BC Hydro ‘Power Smart’ and the Government of Canada’s ‘Federal House in Order’ incentive programs for helping to fund this project.
Power Smart Partners are eligible to submit proposals to BC Hydro to request funding to implement electrical energy-saving projects. The incentive fund can help reduce the pay back period, enabling implementation of projects that previously would not have met internal funding requirements.
The Federal House in Order initiative is the Government of Canada’s plan for reducing GHG emissions within its own operations in line with Action Plan 2000 on Climate Change (AP2000).
On September 23, 2003, as part of Canada’s commitment to the Kyoto Protocol, Canada Post Corp. signed a letter officially supporting the Government of Canada’s position to reduce the impact of climate change by reducing GHG emission levels. The preparations for Harmonizer installation at the Vancouver facility, which is the largest Canada Post facility in western Canada, began in early October, within days of making this GHG emissions reduction and energy conservation commitment.
Legend Power Systems is the sole distributor in North America of the Electrical Harmonizer™. This proven and patented technology was originally developed and tested in Japan. The Electrical Harmonizer™ connects to the total facility electrical load at its source. The Electrical Harmonizer™ provides efficiencies to any commercial business or institutional facility that operates long hours and has large lighting or office equipment requirements.
With the installation of Legend’s Electrical Harmonizer™ it is possible to save 7%-12% on a company’s electricity bills. Such savings are based on a detailed, measured comparison under identical load factors. In addition, the Electrical Harmonizer™ extends the life of electrical equipment, improves the quality of electric power, improves power factor and reduces harmonics and phase voltage imbalance. The Electrical Harmonizer™ also reduces motor operating temperatures, kilowatt demand, and maintenance costs for electric lighting, motors and electronic equipment.
