Ask an Engineer: Keara

Ask an Engineer is a new series in our blog that provides a behind-the-scenes look at Legend Power and the people behind our technology. Today’s engineer is Keara.

Name: Keara Marshall
Length of Time with Legend: 1 month (started in Jan.)
Job Title: R&D Engineering Assistant

Erik: What’s one thing you’d like to change about Legend Power?

Keara: So far I have really enjoyed working at Legend Power. The people are great and I have been learning a lot. My one complaint is the commute! I live in UBC, so it’s an hour+ to get to and from work in Burnaby every day.

Erik: What is your favourite commercial power conservation example?

Keara: My favourite energy conservation example is the use of natural light as opposed to artificial lighting. Studies have shown that work done by natural daylight reduces a workers stress, error, and fatigue. Not only does this save energy, but it also increases productivity in the workplace.

Erik: What is the most frequently asked question about the Harmonizer?

Keara: A very common question about Legend Power’s product, the Harmonizer with an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR), is “How much will I save on my electricity bill?” You can save anywhere from 6% to 10% on your electricity bill with the Harmonizer-AVR. You will also save money on maintenance costs as the life-cycle of your equipment is extended, and the environment reaps the benefits of reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Erik: What is your favorite activity in the office?

Keara: Eating! We have some pretty talented cooks in the office, and it’s fantastic when they cook lunch for everybody.

Erik: What are you reading right now?

Keara: Inhabitat is a daily must-read for me. I love green design and, as they put it, “ is a weblog devoted to the future of design, tracking the innovations in technology, practices and materials that are pushing architecture and home design towards a smarter and more sustainable future.”
